Last week my cousin came by with her grand rovers and we had such a wonderful time. Knox was in heaven three little boys to play with. He doesn't get to play much with little boys his own age and it was so fun to watch him play with them.

Laken was his funny self, he keeps us laughing.

First Annual TJ's Fabric Trip

Last Friday my dear friends Ashley and Emily Price and I took a wonderful day trip to Opp, Alabama to a wonderful fabric store called TJ's Fabrics. It wasn't a across town trip for these 3 fabric warriors it was a 4 hour trip. We had been talking up this trip for awhile and finally the day came we set off early Friday morning around 7:30 and arrived around 11:30. We took a quick look around and then went to eat lunch so we would have plenty of energy. The owner TJ was wonderful and her coworker was super nice too. We literally spent the whole afternoon with them. They have a lovely sitting area set up for tired shoppers or waiting family members to enjoy. As you can tell by the pictures fabric, fabric, and more fabric. The last few pictures are my selection of the day I also got some buttons and a couple of patterns. Oh yes before I forget they also give you a discount after you spent $250. They have a file where they keep up with your purchases and then after you reach your $250 you get 20% off your next purchase. Then it starts over again. I had been to TJ's once before on our trip to the beach we stopped in so I met my goal and was able to get 20% on several pieces of fabric. Chattanooga TN Trip

We recently to a weekend trip to Chattanooga Tn, just Poppie and I. On our first day we went and rode the incline. It is a fun ride up and they gave us lots of information on this railway. We were the first on the rail car so we got to sit right up front which gave us a great view.

On the way back down we sat in the very back, at the top of the mountain the incline rail car sits at a steep angle so it was hard to stand up and walk. It was a fun trip we also went to a event on Kintler's Mountain which was a fall festival with tons of boths selling all kinds of homemade crafts. The setting was on a creek bank where there was a former corn mill. It was so beautiful and the weather was perfect. I got a carmel apple and homemade lemonade. The had just about anything you would like to eat even greens and beans.

Top pattern is by My Favorite Things Little Po Beep, I reversed the top facing to the outside and added ric rac.

The pants are Bonnie Blue Jillian.

The pattern for Mylee's top is Children's Corner Callie.

The pants are Lettie by Children's Corner Patterns and the spider applique is from Planet Applique.

Boys pants is an adaption of Britches and Bloomers Pattern

More girl's pants and yes that is a pair of christmas pants included . It will be time to wear them before we even turn around.

The internet can be a wonderful thing, well sometimes anyway. For almost 2 years now I have not had a updated picture of my precious granddaughters and look what I just found. We had not seen Anna since she was 7 months old. Isn't she just beautiful! I think she resembles Meredith some, and look at Meredith oh how my heart leaped when I found this picture. Our prayers are still that God will bring our son and his family back into our lives and ask you if you would please pray for our family and that God take control of the hearts of all involved make us all humble, loving and forgiving and bring us together again.

This Children's Corner Lucy is made from Fabric Finders fabric and is reversible.

Skirt pattern is one I drafted for the customer. The shirt is appliqued with a design from http://www.appliquemarket.com/.

I just love this romper it turned out really sweet. The pattern is Bonnie Blue Kipp. The appliques are two I merged together from different designers.

Peasant dress is another one I drafted from two different patterns. There last two are for sisters who I know will look so precious on game day. I only need to finish Mylee's Romper and she will be ready for the next game. BTW I can sew Alabama/Roll Tide only because I am not one of those ugly fans who can't be nice aka Poppie! LOL We sure had a close call on Saturday those Tigers scared me! But a win is a win so WAR EAGLE!!!

Wow she will be 5 on September 13th!!! I just can't hardly believe my girls are all growing up old enough to go to school. Of course she isn't old enough to start public 5 yr old kindergarden so we are sending her to a private school. Her mommy is not sure yet if she will attend there next year or go into public school. Her outfit of course is made by me it is hard to tell in this picture but it is an apple print by Sally Henderson and a dot print by Amy Butler that I got on our last trip to the beach from TJ's fabric.

This is such a sweet picture of them both. Kaylee is really loving to her baby sister, now on the other hand Mylee is such a little bugger, yes I said bugger. Their mom and I talk daily about this little rover and what we need to be doing to improve upon her endless activities of screaming, pitching fits, hitting others (doggy included) this is just one road that we haven't had to venture down so it's been a little rough for us all. Honestly is we didn't love her so much and she wasn't the cutest kid on earth we might just give her back to the stork. lol

This picture brought tears to my eyes, I love that she is getting to play and learn with other children but it is also bittersweet to leave her by herself with strangers and let her really be out by herself in this world away from her mommy and I. Taking care of my grandchildren while their moms work really has brought me closer to them than I think most grandparents get to be. I know she is in a great school with christian loving teachers but the nonnie in me wants her to stay safe in our arms and in our homes where we can protect her. Funny how I am having the same sadness that I had when her mommy started to preschool even thought I went with her, ( I taught two doors down in the 2yr old class).

Isn't he cute! He is going to be on a very cute jumper that friends Ashley and Emily are making for their little niece. Maybe I will get a picture to post later of the finished garment.

Apples are coming in around here in the local orchards this would be the perfect outfit to wear on a field trip to one of the orchards. Pants are britches and bloomers sewing this time was done by Ashley and Emily, appliqued apple is from embroidery boutique.

This top pattern is one I just drafted I loved how it turned out and so did my customer.

Pillowcase jumper is available in 6 months to 10 yrs. Not a very good picture though, but it is really sweet on the child.

Mylee turned two years old on Saturday. This little one is the spark in her poppie's eye and the joy in her nonnie's heart. She is so funny, with all her cute facial expressions to her sassy attitude she keeps our lives very full with joy, love and laughter. We had her party at the park and we all agreed it was the best child's birthday party we have had. The children all had a great time playing and the parents could relax too.

We had several tornadoes and straight line winds come thru Alabama yesterday. Several families have lost homes and business. But much worst there has been many who have losted their life and several still missing. It will be several days before we know the full effects of this storm. Kaylee is walking around with a flash light in her hand she want but it down, bless her heart she even slept holding onto it last night. We are fine just one tree damaged on our property. Our daughter's home is also fine. I haven't heard from Nathan and his family but with the situation like it is I probaly want. I am just praying that they are all safe and sound. Knox's father lost his office building in downtown Cullman, they had just purchased and finished most of the remodeling. Kiery's family is also fine no damage to their property. We have a gas powered genarator going so we have some power right now. They are saying it may be weeks before all power is restored. Please pray for all who are suffering, It is a very sad day here in Alabama.

Easter 2011

We had such a lovely day, first Church then we came home and ate a great lunch together and then hunted eggs with the girls. Mom came and stayed with us this weekend and the girls and I really enjoyed having her with us. Greg and I are so blessed to have such healthy happy girls. But even with all the joy that they bring us each holiday that comes around is so sad without our son and his family with us. We continue to pray daily that the Lord will bring them back to us.

Kaylee is the best big sister she loves her baby sister so much.

I made the girls dresses. They are made from Pima Cotton and smocked in white dmc. The collars, yokes and cuffs are piped with whipstitch piping the pattern is Collars Yoke Dress.

Ferbie had to show off his bunny ears and that smile on Kaylee's face is just too precious.

We really got hot outside finding all those eggs I was surprised how warm it was on Easter Sunday. I can't recall it being this warm in April here in Alabama, but I'm sure it has been.

The bubble is a new pattern from Carrie Barrow called "Summer Bubble". I think Mylee looks so cute in bubbles showing those chubby little legs, I will post a pic asap of her in it.

These were taken last Friday before we left for storytime at the library. They are some silly bunch of rovers. Kaylee and Mylee's outfits were made out of Riley Blake rainy day fabric. The applique came from planet applique. Kiery's outfit was made by her mommy. Knoxie's is a hannah kate outfit and I appliqued the K on it. We had a great day, my friend Teresa went with me so we could make a fabric stop in Trussville at Sew Biz. She kept telling me how well behaved the rovers were so I finally ask her was she trying to convince herself or me? hehe. They are really good when we go out, one reason is we don't venture out much so when we do it's a treat.

The little class has children from almost 2 up to 4 years old. The teacher is a young lady that Natalie went to highschool with. They have a very laid back teaching atmosphere so all the little ones love going.

Our precious little man turned one last week. It's hard to believe that he is already one. I started keeping him when he was just a few months old. Now is walking, climbing, running, and into everything along with his partner in crime Miss Mylee. They are so sweet together with all their kisses and hugs. If you see one you will see the other close by. Knox has a very sweet personality and is very easy going, good thing! with all the girls around here.

Greg and I took the girl's to Brookwood mall last night to see Santa. It was the funniest thing we have done in a while. Thanksgiving this year was so so nice we enjoyed the company of our daughter and her family our son-in-law's father and his friend and of course mom was here. We don't do much turkey around here but love our ham so we had that plus all the other fixings. Friday Natalie and I headed out at 3:10 am shopping and got home right before the great Auburn/Alabama game which btw was super great for me, not so much for papa. We sure miss our son and his family and keep praying everday that God will help bring them all back to us.

We are at it again this time up to our ears in flooring. Papa and I both don't care much for carpet and since the grandbabies are here most of the time the 3.5 year old carpet needed to go. So off to lumber liquidators we went. I finally decided on one called Embassy Mahogony it is 12 mm thick so hopefully the wear time will be good. It has a 30 yr warranty. The color is darker than our other hardwood flooring throught the rest of the house. But since it only joins in the door ways it look fine. We have finished one room this weekend, my sewing room. The rovers will be over this evening for supper so now all we need to do is put everything back in it's place.

This wonderful pie is blueberry I just love the recipe it's quick and easy everyone who tries it loves it. My cousin generously gave me enough blueberries to make two pies. The recipe came from a friend years ago who also grew blueberries it has a secret ingredient well seems like it should be a secret it's sour cream.

Canning and Sewing

I have been sewing alot just not posting my work here are a few things I have done over the last couple of weeks for customers. I have made the girls several things and I will try to post some pics of them in their new Nonnie mades.

Our little garden is finally producing some tomatoes this apparently is not going to be a good year for them but I was determined to make some salsa this year. I used a package mix and added tomatoes, bell pepper, banana pepper and onions. It turned out really good, we have already tried some since it is ready to eat once you simmer it for about 10 minutes. The pickled pepper is a test run since the last time I made it my peppers were to mushy to eat. We will test them out on Sunday since it will be one week they should be ready.

These two little bathing cuties will be very angry at me on day but we just couldn't help ourselves. They are just 3 weeks apart in age and are just the perfect match for each other. Mylee is a little spit fire and Laken can hold is on, well right now that it is I am not sure about that in a couple of years.

We were down at Perdido Bay last weekend for a family member's wedding I got to use my new camera to take some cute shots of the girls. Miss Mylee is growing up so fast she can now stand alone at 8 months old, she most likely will be walking in a few more weeks.

Easter Egg Hunt

The girls Papa and I went to our church for an Easter Egg hunt last saturday. We all had a great time but I think Mylee enjoyed the cookies the most. She is such a funny little thing never at 8 months old would we have given the other darlings a whole cookie to eat at one time.

Kaylee has been to an Egg Hunt before but she seemed a little overwhelmed with all the eggs laying in plain view so she would stand there looking at them saying "there's one" but before she would get it another child would run up and grap it, needless to say she only got ten eggs. Papa blamed me and said next year he would be her guide for the entire hunt. I just laughed but I really didn't think I should be helping her.

Mylee is wearing a new Bonnie Blue pattern Sydney the fabric is light green seersucker with rick rack trim the applique is Embroidery Boutique.

Kaylee's dress is also light green seersucker the pattern is the revised CC Charlotte it was trimmed down the right front with jumbo rick rack.

Papa is helping Kaylee find a few more eggs ssh don't tell him that he isn't suppose to hep.

They told the kids to make a funny face and of course they all did.

I've really been sewing alot lately mostly at night and on the weekends. My friends are constantly asking me how I get so much done with the baby and the girls with me during the day. I tell them I sew a minute here and there and then try to finish things up at night and Papa is so good about helping me with housework when he gets home.

The pants are capri length for an older child I used the Maja Heirlooms Sophie pattern I have an order to make up several pair for a new found friend who is going to be selling them to match her machine appliqued shirts. The gown in a kwik sew pattern Kaylee was really not thrilled with it when I showed her she made the comment "Nonnie there are no polkadots" I just laughed but her mommy said she couldn't wait to put in on after her bath that night, silly girl. The dress is a new pattern I purchased last summer called petite poche Daisy Mae I loved the sleeves on this dress and so did Kaylee. The peasant style dress is one I purchased online and downloaded from youcanmakethis.com it made up really fast and was easy too!

God has really blessed me with these precious children over the last few weeks my heart has been so sad without our oldest granddaughter Meredith being here with us. Well it's now February and official time to start with the Valentine's Day traditions. The first one was making cookies which so far we have made 3 batches yummy! The second one is clothing, I have made the girl's shirts and pants now it's time to do their dresses. Mylee is wearing her dressy Valentine's Day dress it is a little bishop that I smocked. I have plans to make Kaylee a dressy dress too and I have them both a cute little knit dress cut out that I hope to finish by the weekend. Thirdly we need to start on crafts, hearts, glue sticks and paint boy I just can't wait!!! Well maybe I am not so enthusiastic but the girls will enjoy it.

Mylee and Laken picked right up where they left off. It's hard to believe they are almost 6 & 7 months old now.

Mylee turned 5 months old on the 23rd and her mommy decided on Christmas Day to see if she could sit alone, well as you can see she can. Well at least for a few minutes and then she will fall over or side ways.

I am so excited about my new camera, but boy do I have a lot to learn. So far the pictures that I have taken have been super great, well just telling you what I think!!! Hopefully I can get a lesson or two soon so I know what the heck I am doing, the camera is really easy to operate but with so many options I really want to learn to use some of them.

Our 29th Wedding Anniversary at Ross Bridge

On November 28, 2009 Greg and I celebrated 29 years of marriage together. Greg booked us a room at Renaissance at Ross Bridge it was more than just a room it was the junior suite I believe, but was just lovely. Several weeks ago papa was fishing on smith lake and a gentleman asked him for a small favor and papa was happy to help. He tried to pay him, but Greg refused and gave him his business card and he called later and offered him a discount on the hotel where he worked, turns out to be much bigger favor returned to Greg. We did pay some for the room but nothing near the actual cost and shortly after we checked into our room, he sent up a bottle of wine. Nice man helped papa give me a wonderful anniversary. Later in the afternoon he carried me to the movies (now papa just doesn't care for the movies and I love to go) we saw The Blind Side and we both enjoyed it. Then we went to dinner and back to the room. I slept like sleeping beauty I think the wine might have had something to do with that. We got up fairly early and went to IHOP for breakfast that was really good too. I want to carry the grandchildren there on day in the summer so they can enjoy the wonderful pool area, we have stayed several times in Florence at the Marriott on the Shoals but I think Ross Bridge has my vote as the best placed we've stayed in years. We are kind of hotel snobs you can say, once you stay in a Marriott resort everything else is like a motel 6. God has really blessed us over our 29 years together I hope we get 29 more years too, that will only make us 75 yrs old who knows we just might make it too!

Pumpkin Chiffon Dessert

This is a recipe that was given to me by a sweet older couple we knew from a Church that we attended about 16 years ago we lost touch when we moved away. She called it Pumpkin Chiffon and even took the time to write out the recipe in detail all those years ago. It is really easy and taste oh so good. I was able to get my hands on 2 cans of pumpkin at Wal-mart the other night and felt like I had won something! The recipe only calls for one, but since there is a shortage I just had to buy another one. Here's the recipe.

1 3/4 cups graham cracker crumbs

1 stick of butter

1/4 cup of sugar

Melt butter mix with graham cracker crumbs and sugar and press into 13x9 dish

One 8 oz package of soften cream cheese

2 large eggs

3/4 cup sugar

Beat cheam cheese add eggs then sugar till fluffy (no lumps) pour over graham cracker crust and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes let cool completely

Two packages (3.4) ounce instant vanilla pudding

3/4 cup milk

1 can of pumpkin

dash of cinnamon

1 cup of cool whip

Mix pudding and milk for 2 minutes add pumpkin and dash of cinnamon then fold in cool whip. Then spread over baked cream cheese mixture. Use remaining cool whip and spread evenly over pumpkin and pudding mixture top with 1/2 cup nuts. I have to put my pecans on at my daughter's home tomorrow because I forgot to buy them. Keep in fridge overnight for the best flavor. Serves 16

Kissing Cousin Mylee and Laken

Yesterday my cousin brought over her newest grandbaby Laken, he is 3 weeks older than Mylee. But they are just about the same length he is a little fuller than our baby girl but of course he's a boy. Mylee is know 4 months old and has really developing quite the personality. She wasn't sure that her daddy would approve of her being so close to a boy! Ssh let's not mention those kisses he gave her.

Ever since I made my niece over 4 years ago a little jacket out of Minky I have been afraid to sew with it again. I did make the older girls pants last spring from Minky but was really not comfortable with making a dress but I just jumped right in tonight and in less than two hours I had cut out and sewn up both dresses. And I just love them. I most likely will go back and monogram both dresses but I am waiting to try them on the girls tomorrow morning.

These are some button on bibs I made for the Jon-jon below they will make one outfit turn into several just with the change of the little bib.

I used the Chery Williams pattern for this jon-jon for my neighbors little grandson.

The last week we have all been so sick with a terrible cough and congestion. Meredith had it first, then me and then Kaylee and now Papa and Natalie. I don't think I have been this sick for years, the doc said it was not the flu! Sunday we stayed home from Church just to keep from sharing this wonderful sickness so Papa and I decided to take a day trip. We used to do this alot before the grandbabies came along. Just jump in the car and drive, but our weekends mostly now are planned with the girls. We drove up to Fort Payne Alabama and went to the Desoto Falls area it was just beautiful when ended up on some back roads in Georgia when Papa made a wrong turn but saw some of the most beautiful fall trees there.

Have I said how much I love these two little ones lately, well they make my heart sing!

Kaylee was really being very protective this morning when I put Mylee in her Bumbo seat.

But Mylee wasn't scared at all she really liked it.

Mylee wouldn't be helpful and smile for Nonnie, but Kaylee bug is always my happy girl.

This look is telling me to hurry she really is ready to go play.

This little girl my have her dads smile but those eyes belong to her mother.

Sunday we carried Meredith to see the Wizard of Oz performed at the Historic Pittman Theatre in Gadsden, Alabama. She has loved this movie since she was about 18 months old. Yes I know that sounds a little funny seeing that the movie can be a little scary with the witch and gobblins but it's true she knows each scene by heart and can even sing most of Somewhere over the Rainbow. She just squeeled with delight as soon as the munchkins came on stage she spoke rather loudly "Nonnie they are really people", one of the ushers that was standing behind us said she was more fun to watch than the performance. Needless to say it was worth all the time and effort it took to get her there for Papa and I to see her have such a great time.

Can you believe she is already 2 months old!

I think I might have solved the "hold me while I sleep Nonnie" problem. I put her back in her seat this morning and so far she has slept 2 hours!!

Yesterday I went to a fabric sale by Hannah Kate a local children's clothing trunk show company. I got corduory, minky, Michael Miller prints and others just $3 a yard. Yes it was a dream come true the girls will have some cute outfits I hope for the fall and winter now to get busy planning and sewing.

Almost finished! Papa just needs to finish the touch up on the chair rail and crown. Then hang my pictures and we will be finished with the kitchen.
